Story Text

What single moment stands out to you the most from the 2005-06 season?
Watching the nets being cut down at the Verizon Center for the first time in Mason History - I felt so proud to be lucky enough to be a part of that.

Tell about your experiences during the Kryptonite Kids' magical run through the tournament:
I must be honest that I was surprised when the NCAA selection committee gave us an at-large bid after the 2 losses to a Hofstra team which we struggled with this season and ended up not receiving a bid. From the first round when the team powered through Michigan State and then through none other than UNC. I was in awe at the heart and desire that these player had to win. Coach L sure knows how to keep a team fearless and show them how to stay poised in such a high pressure environment like the NCAA tournament. When I had the opportunity to attend the games against Wichita State and UConn it was like I could feel the energy of the team just being there. My fellow fans in the Verizon Center helped push the 'Kryptonite Kids' through the battles right here in our backyard in Washington. Going into the UConn game I knew we had our work cut out for us but, I figured that if anyone could knock these guys off it was us. I was on the edge of my seat(when not standing) the entire game. I had no voice by Monday from cheering EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION with chants "DEFENSE!" and "LET'S GO MASON!" When I returned to work on Monday morning I had people asking if I was sick and I whispered to them "I just experienced the Mason/UConn game and when my voice returns I'll be cheering the Patriots on in Indianapolis because I know they'll appreciate my support". I expect the 'Kryptonite Kids' and Coach L to continue doing what they have been doing...breaking the hearts of the big universities one school at a time.

What do you think this moment means for George Mason University?
This accomplishment is just one benefit of many we will see in the future. I can just feel the energy when walking on campus and seeing the smiles on faces. I think that this has officially "Put Mason on the Map" so to speak. The CAA conference will hopefully not be taken so lightly next year as far as basketball is concerned and hopefully this will continue to benefit the school in recruitment all around. I look forward to coming back from Indianapolis with our first National Championship and will hope that Mason does well with recruiting incoming freshmen players who will be able to take the journey of filling Jai, Lamar, and Tony's shoes(tough shoes to fill). And lastly, maybe journalists like Billy Packer, Gregg Doyle, and Dick Vitale won't underestimate GMU when it comes to basketball in the future.
