Story Text

What single moment stands out to you the most from the 2005-06 season?
(1) Lamar Butlerís rebound of the final Connecticut shot in the Washington Regional Final--Oh my God! Mason is going to the Final Four; (2) watching this team play with joy throughout the tournament; (3) the other moment was when Jai passed to Tony in the Bracket-Buster game and knowing that they are a great team, would be ranked, and may have punched their ticket to the NCAA.

Tell about your experiences during the Kryptonite Kids' magical run through the tournament:
We went to the Final 4 to root on our team! Who would have believed that was possible. Yelled myself hoarse and played at being a college kid (well an old one). We sat there with some LSU fans watching the second game and they wished their team played like Mason and really were impressed by the Mason fans. I am not sure if it came through the TV but the Mason fans were really strong in their support--I hope that the guys could feel it.

After the game we when we were having some beverages, we talked to some Indiana fans that attended the game and they said that when the Mason fans sang "Livin' on a Prayer" was "the most moving thing they witnessed at a NCAA tournament." They were just impressed with how the entire group Mason supporters were able to sing together.

The other cool thing is that people loved this team. After the John Mellencamp concert we broke into an impromptu GMU chant and several people joined in and applauded! I only bought one drink that evening (and that was because the waitress got us at the door). The Texas fans were the most generous - I think because they knew that Coach Rick Barnes was rooting for GMU.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We had a great time, and only wish the ride was longer. We are so proud of our team especially our starting five Jai, Tony, Lamar, Will, and Folarin (thanks for the memories and thanks for helping us to believe). Thanks to the bench Gabe, Sammy, Tim, Jordan, Chris, Makan, and Charles, with the big three graduating (Jai, Tony, and Lamar) remember to believe in each other and good things can happen!

What do you think this moment means for George Mason University?
People now know of this great University. With great joy and belief any thing is possible! Now the world knows of this special place that I have loved since my freshman year in 1980.
